Jaganmohini – Movie Review
Jaganmohini is the remake of veteran Vittalacharya’s horror-comedy of the same name. Remaking cult classics isn’t really a bad idea, but what made the original Jaganmohini tick was its imaginative plot premise and the visual effects, done with very modest technical advancements available during the seventies.
Peranmai – Movie Review
Ayngaran can take pride that they have produced Peranmai, a different type of entertainer with a subtle message. It is a film within the commercial format, but does not pander to mass masala, which itself is a welcome change.
SP Jananathan is a gutsy and daring director to make a pro-reservation film, which shows the upper caste tilts in our administration. Here is a definitive movie with a moral framework, and commitment along with a stunning and realistic climax.
Kanden Kadhalai – Movie Review
Three cheers to filmmaker Kannan for taking the acid test to do the Tamil version of the successful feel-good Hindi entertainer ‘Jab We Met’ and passing out in flying colours.
Aadhavan – movie review
Expectations and hopes were high on filmmaker K S Ravikumar especially after the stupendous hit ‘Dasavatharam’. The director who is considered a man with the Midas touch in Kollywood, has tried to live up to all expectations in ‘Aadhavan’. He succeeds in his attempts partially.
Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru – Movie Review
Good things come in small packages. Nandhini JS has earned her stripes with her debut Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru (T4), a breezy and enjoyable romantic comedy.
And what really get T4 zip, zap zooming are the two likeable leads Ajmal and Roopa, their bickering and bonding is a scream. What works for the film as a whole is Nandhini’s witty screenplay laced with subtle humour and romance that blends smoothly with the plot.
Eeram – Movie Review
The producer in director Shankar is known for spotting the right talent. In ‘Eeram’, he has brought out the filmmaker in his former-associate Arivazhagan. S Pictures, which has made a name for churning out movies on different genre, has dared to deliver an eerie thriller, which is a rarity in Tamil cinema.
Unnaipol Oruvan – Movie Review
A challenging face-off between two men involved in events that go unrecorded by law, all in a 100-minutes edge-of-the-seat thriller. Isn’t that interesting? If so, just book your tickets for Unnaipol Oruvan right now and go ahead, watch it. If A Wednesday made Neeraj Pandey as the finest auteur of Bollywood, debutant Chakri isn’t an exception, as he does justice with a loyal remake of this masterpiece.
Arumugam – Movie Review
Director Suresh Krissna (Batsha Director) returns. The erstwhile hit maker is trying to regain the magic touch that he so famously possessed in the 90s. Apparently, he still seems to believe in the 90s style of film making when Tamil cinema has actually evolved far ahead. That is how one feels about Aarumugam, a story that could have found its takers in the 90s. Striking similarities to Suresh Krissna’s big hits of the 90s at many places cannot escape your notice, even though the story, screenplay and dialogues have been handled by Rashid Premji.
